Implantable Chips: Bitcoins and Tattoos

Recently a Dutchman installed microchips directly into his hands under the skin in order to enable the transfer of bitcoins. It appears it was primarily a publicity stunt, as the person who did it, Martijn Wismeijer, is the co-founder of a Bitcoin website, MrBitcoin. A handful of other people also had the microchips installed directly into their body.

Want to do this to yourself? You can. A company called "Dangerous Things" is selling them on the Internet  for about $100. The package also includes a syringe so you can inject the microchips into yourself.

Mr Wismeijer thinks that implanted technology can be thought of as similar to a tattoo, that ultimately will be able to serve many purposes, including monitoring your health and making financial transactions easier.
